The monastery of Bouaké was founded in 1959 by Benedictine monks from the monastery of Toumliline (Morocco), itself a foundation of the Abbey of En-Calcat (France). The monastery became a priory on 7 February 1975. The community comprises 15 solemnly professed brothers and four brothers with temporary vows.

Situated near the city of Bouaké (population 1.5 million), the second-largest city in Côte d’Ivoire and a university town, the monastery maintains links with both city dwellers and people from the surrounding countryside.

The monastery’s financial support comes from rearing laying hens and a few secondary activities. The monastery’s influence stems primarily from its guesthouse, which welcomes priests, men and women religious, laypeople, young people and adults for retreats or spiritual gatherings.

Project:

Brother Guy is studying for a Doctorate in Ecclesiastical Studies at the Catholic University of West Africa (UCAO). Financial assistance is needed to cover his tuition fees.
